College is all about change and adapting to new things. Every semester brings with it new beginnings and endings. New Friends, surviving classes, living differently, and all involve making many new choices.

However, some choices are temporary and some aren’t -- Smoking, for instance.

Right now you might think it’s just a weekend thing, but it becomes a lifetime addiction . . . just like the Big Tobacco Companies knew it would. They target you because you’re a young adult, and they are not surprised when you act exactly like they want you to --taking that first puff off of a friend’s cigarette.
And that’s only the first step in their plan, a plan that has you giving them money for the rest of your life -- and will ultimately cost you your life. But addiction to tobacco is only part of a bigger problem.

Being around tobacco smoke effects everyone --especially your friends and family. Remember the last time you were around cigarette smoke and your eyes were burning and your throat felt raw?

Guess what --
it’s not the smoke itself that’s causing you to feel that way,
it’s the hundreds of chemicals in the smoke -- like
         • formaldehyde,
         • arsenic, and
         • cyanide.

The pain and irritation you experience is your body telling you - “get away from the poison!”

You're thinking, "Does it have to be this way?"  And the answer is "No, it doesn't!" If you've read this far, you're a person who cares to make a difference.....and that’s what Live Free is all about.  The purpose of the Live Free Tobacco Project is to
         • reduce the use of tobacco on and around campus,
         • expose the Tobacco Industry’s ongoing deception,
         • raise awareness about how tobacco use effects everyone, and
create positive, lasting change.

More than just a slogan, “Live Free” is a way of thinking and living....
           • Living free of tobacco,
           • free to say “NO!” to becoming a puppet of the tobacco industry.
           • Free to be successful because you’ll be healthier.
Begin right now to make a difference and let your voice be heard. Your energy and passion are needed, because student involvement is the driving force behind this project.
